Blackbutt Timber Decking

A common but popular choice of flooring, the blackbutt tree grows in abundance along the east coast of Australia. Known for its resistance to fire, blackbutt timber is a dense hardwood that looks beautiful inside or outside the home. It makes a sturdy deck and is a great natural flooring option for inside too.

Blackbutt offers our customers a different look to most other timber decking options being lighter in colour, it does tend to darken with exposure to uv and alsogoes slightly darker after an application of decking oil. Blackbutt is a great choice as it often has a straight grain making it unique to other Australian timber.

Care & Maintenance

Maintenance is crucial for all types of timber decking in order to keep it in its prime condition.

Different timber types require different amounts of maintenance. Blackbutt, although a durable hardwood, is greatly affected by the elements. Normal recommendations suggest cleaning, scrubbing and sealing your deck every 6 - 12 months. Blackbutt may require more maintenance than other timber species.

When placed inside the home, blackbutt will need to be sweeped and mopped regularly to protecting the surface from scratching. Blackbutt will also need to be sanded and re-sealed every few years all dependant on the amount of traffic to and over the area.
